Frequently asked questions about our oak structures

We are your leading local supplier of Oak frame buildings. Based in the city of Norwich we are ideally located to service the whole of Norfolk and surrounding areas. Below are some of the common questions we get asked in the initial stages of planning your Oak framed outbuilding.

Q. Will I need planning permission?
A. This really depends on certain things like, size of building, design, height and location. Some of our buildings don't require any planning permission, but if yours does we can handle all planning applications for a small charge.

Q. Can Norfolk Cart Lodges handle the whole build from start to finish or just supply the Radnor Oak's framed kit?
A. The short answer is yes! We can be as involved in your project as you want us to be. Wether you are looking for a full build service with us arranging planning permission right through to garden landscaping, or you are looking to just purchase one of our kits and use your own builder/carpenter to erect it we can accommodate.

Q. What are the timescales involved?
A. The Oak frame usually takes between 2 to 6 weeks to produce in the workshop, depending on the size of the frame and how busy the production unit is at the time. If we are to construct the groundworks, then these are carried out whilst your frame is in production. Once the frame is ready it is delivered to site, then the build will take between 5 to 15 working days, again depending on the size of the structure.

Q. Will I need to treat the Oak and the weatherboard cladding?
A. This really depends on the look that you want to achieve. The real answer is no, the Oak and the weatherboard cladding will ‘silver down’ after some time, maybe a year or so. However some customers like to keep this looking bright and this can be achieved by various stains and finishes which we can advise you on.

Q. Is it possible for you to visit our home and give advice?
A. Yes, we initially suggest a telephone conversation to establish your requirements, we can then arrange a site visit to check what groundworks would be required as well as any details for the planning application if needed.
